Saying Goodbye to Friends

As an expat, you quickly discover that one of the hardest parts of this experience is saying goodbye to the wonderful people whom you have met and who took part in this great Expat Adventure with you.  In many ways, life as an expat means always having to say goodbye.  Fortunately though, it also means saying hello to wonderful new people as well.  Below are some photos from the incredibly FABULOUS going-away luncheon that our friend Vanessa threw for some friends leaving Jakarta.

Our friends Anna and Rham (left) who left Jakarta, and our host, Vanessa (right).

The first part of the event was champagne cocktails and appetizers served outside by the pool.

The flower arrangement in the center of the table was made to look like Borobodour, one of the most famous
temples in Indonesia
Each woman was given a beautiful flower arrangement to wear in our hair.
All of the women, including a guest singer in the middle.
The men were all given traditional Indonesian hats and posed along the gamelan musicians who played during the outside reception.
Inside, we were greeted by a table with gorgeous place settings, including a menu for the luncheon, an adorable butterfly cookie, and a box of chocolates.
Our hungry group!
In addition to 3 other scrumptious cakes and pies for dessert, we were all treated to cupcakes with symbols of Indonesia - the flat, a mosque,  anIndonesian puppet design, batik, and a Komodo dragon, native to Indonesia.
Cheers to a wonderful afternoon and a lovely luncheon!
